Today, it is essential to use creams with sun protection factors; that is, with filters that avoid the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation:
- UVA Rays: penetrate deeply. They accelerate skin aging and cause damage to collagen and elastin, resulting in carcinogenicity.
- UVB Rays: They only penetrate to the epidermis. They are very dangerous because they alter the structure of cells, decrease the immune capacity and promote the formation of free radicals. They are cumulative, so a skin that burns repeatedly in youth has a greater chance of generating Cancer, even if it has been protected for the rest of its life.
What SPFs really measure is their ability to delay sunburn. The higher the FPS, the longer we will have protection. However, between a factor of 5 and 25 there is a lot of difference, while between a factor of 30 and 50 very little.
In the United States and Canada, SPFs greater than 30 are prohibited, to prevent consumers from having excessive confidence, believing that a single application prevents sun damage. For this reason, they consider that these messages lead to important misunderstandings.
